Rob Thornton:

Rob Thornton has served as the Community Resource Deputy for the Sun City Center area communities since July of 2003.  Before that assignment, Rob was a field training officer and part-time Community Resource Deputy in the south Brandon area.  In that capacity, he trained several of the new deputies that are currently patrolling our communities

Before joining the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, Rob was a deputy with the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office for over 4 years.  Rob began his law enforcement career in 1993 with the University of Florida’s Police Department in Gainesville, Florida.

Rob grew up in St. Petersburg, Florida.  He graduated from Boca Ciega High School, and The University of South Florida.  Rob has a degree in History - ask him about his keen interest in medieval war fare.  Prior to settling into his career in law enforcement, Rob enjoyed career opportunities in retail management and as a U.S. Army officer.

About Community Resource Deputies (CRDs):

The philosophy that the Sheriff's Office has employed since 1993 is Community Oriented Policing.  As part of this program the agency assigns specific deputies to communities, to work closely with the citizens living in the area.  CRDs are available to work long term projects in the community or take on a large variety of tasks not traditionally seen as related to police work.  The CRDs form partnerships with the communities and assist them with problem solving, training, or other tasks that allow them to resolve issues before they require law enforcement intervention.
